Wyatt, Lesley Mary

I became a Registered Childminder in 1989 and have built my business up over the years and am now running a successful, enjoyable and rewarding childcare facility. In September 2017 my husband Phil became my full-time Ofsted Registered Assistant adding another, very positive dimension to our setting.

We have been married since December 1981 and have 3 grown up children, only one of whom still lives at home. We have a dog, a cockerpoo, Henry, who was born on 13th September 2013. He doesn't moult, which is ideal if there are allergies in the family and he is very good with children. He has his own space away from the children, so I choose if and when they get to play together.  He is never left unsupervised with the children, for the children's and his own safety!

Our aim is for the children to be safe, have fun and learn.  We pride ourselves on providing a safe, loving, caring and happy environment for the children, which combines teaching good manners and consideration for others with praise, encouragement and instilling feelings of self-worth and confidence. We provide a varied range of activities all of which cover the Early Years Foundation Stage. These include painting, drawing, gluing, cake making and decorating, model making, garden activities, story time, music, it activities, etc. We also have a very large and varied selection of indoor and outdoor toys, including a playhouse, which the children often use as their 'den'. We also visit parks, paddling pools, friends, childminder and toddler groups and take trips out and about in the holidays.

We have produced planning documents for the EYFS but generally prefer to plan our activities daily, depending on the children's interests, working with what the children want to do that day. We use tracker books for each child which allows us to document their development and enables any potential problems to be quickly identified and monitored and allows us to provide activities to help rectify them early and also allows us to provide more complex, advanced activities should the child be ahead of their expected developmental age. The children spend a lot of their day having 'free play', choosing their own entertainment which has been shown to be beneficial, allowing them to develop at their own pace, but we also have structured, adult led activities to enhance their learning and development.   We celebrate birthday's, multi-cultural celebrations, pancake day, etc.  We keep in contact with parents daily via WhatsApp, sending videos and pictures, updating them on what we've been doing during the day and sharing any relevant information, providing the parents with a record of their children's time with us.

Our setting is inclusive, allowing children of all abilities and ethnicities to participate.

We drop off and collect from College Town Primary School, College Town Nursery, Montessori Nursery and other local play/pre-schools/nurseries. Our working hours are Monday-Friday, 7.30 am to 6 pm but we try to provide a certain amount of flexibility if we can. We work all year, weekdays, full and part time, term time and school holidays. emergency care and would consider picking up from child's home. We obtained an overall 'GOOD' Ofsted inspection report. Phil and I both have certified level 3 paediatric first aid.  I have an NVQ3 in Childcare, Learning and Development, and I have completed certified courses in the following: level 2 award in food safety; targeted safeguarding children training; risk assessment; birth to three; road safety; inclusion development programme: autistic spectrum disorder, common assessment framework; Early Years Foundation Stage; managing medicines; enriching the learning environment for under three’s: sensory play; developing skills of observation, assessment and planning for childminder’s; introduction to domestic abuse and EYFS training : introduction, 2 year summary, planning and self-evaluation. I update my training on a regular basis. We have excellent references available.
