Willow House (Berkshire Adolescent Service)

Temporary closure of Willow House

Willow House will be closed for a three week period from 20 March 2020 to 13 April 2020. This is to allow for some urgent improvement works to be carried out in the unit, to make it more comfortable for our young people and to make sure they are kept safe at all times while in our care.

We have made this decision as it is far less disruptive to carry out the upgrades all in one go, than it would be to do them a bit at a time.

We are working closely with our young people and their families / carers, as well as with NHS England (NHSE), to make sure that we are offering appropriate placements during this time, and that care is not interrupted.

As this is a national service, we have reminded those who make referrals to Willow House that if they require an admission for a young person, they should follow the usual process of referral. We will continue to work with NHSE to locate appropriate placements within our local Thames Valley network.

If you have any questions about the improvement work to Willow House, please contact Matthew Prouse, Service Manager for Willow House & CAMHS Rapid Response Team, on 07775 852630

About Willow House

Willow House is our inpatient mental health unit for young people aged 12 to 18 years. We provide intensive treatment for young people who are experiencing mental health difficulties, and who may no longer be able to receive the care they need at home or in the community.

We’ve developed specific treatment programmes for young people with severe and enduring mental illness, eating disorders, and problems in social and emotional development.

The team here at the Berkshire Adolescent Service has a wealth of experience in treating and supporting young people. We consist of nurses and support workers, consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapists, and an art therapist.

The unit is on the site of Wokingham hospital, near Wokingham Station.

We also provide inpatient services to young people who don’t live in Berkshire if there’s no bed for them in their local area.

We are aware that this will be a worrying time for you and for your family. We are doing all we can to keep our CYPF services running while also keeping you and our staff safe. However, please be aware that due to the impact of COVID-19 we will be prioritising urgent appointments and referrals and some services will be disrupted, postponed or delivered differently (via phone or video link where possible).
